I would like to share a feedback with you which I received from my well-respected supervisor some time ago.
“You are great, but you are not that great.”
Sounds strange? Think about it. You may wonder how this can be true, but it is so true. And it accounts for many employees. It is about perspective.
What does it mean?
On the one hand, you are great. You are highly engaged, your work results speak for themselves and you climb your career ladder. You might have finished a big project or just got promoted. Nice.
On the other hand, you are not that great. Look at you: You are just one little human being, surrounded by many others with great qualities. So if you change your perspective, you will find out that you are one piece of the big puzzle — not less, but also not more.
It is all about perspective.
This feedback helped me remain focused, dedicated, and down-to-earth. I hope it will help you too. My supervisor knew how to acknowledge my accomplishments and she wanted me to stay humble. I’m very grateful.
